Our 2023 programme of speakers and demonstrations
was carefully curated to complement the
influential exhibitor list, this captivated the audience
in thought-provoking and innovative ways throughout the day.

Offering a mix of powerful presentations from industry
heavyweights and highly regarded speakers, as well as
various demonstrations on the latest technology taking place
throughout the course of the day, the programme covered a wide range of QHSE disciplines.

The P&J Live also offered the perfect environment to
informally network and have insightful conversations.

Steven has more than 15 years of experience as an MC and has also acted as an auctioneer. Ensuring all events run smoothly, he has a knack for creating a buzz in the room and works closely with organisers to ensure key aims and messages of the events are reached. His past MC roles include presenting at corporate and sporting dinners, company team events, golf days and charity fundraisers.

Introduction and open networking

Host and MC Steven J Innes introduced the event, providing an overview of what the day will entail, Steven also presented the speaker line-up and demonstrations, before chairing a Q&A with each presenter.

Bob Keiller

Bob Keiller is an entrepreneur with a passion for inspiring others. He helps organisations to grow and does not get paid. He has chaired several organisations including ASCO Group, Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, Scottish Enterprise, Entrepreneurial Scotland, The Offshore Contractors Association and Offshore Energy UK. He was CEO of PSN, Wood Group PSN and Wood Group. Bob is former Chairman of Entrepreneurial Scotland and a member of its Hall of Fame. Entrepreneur of the Year in 2006 and 2008, Scottish Businessman of the Year in 2007 and Scottish Male Business Leader of the Year in 2011.

Improving safety often involves change but asking people to change can be tough. Bob shared the secret of how to create a persuasive pitch by pressing the right psychological buttons. A key part of this, is how to create stories that will make your pitch authentic, unforgettable, and compelling.

Brett Townsley served as a Naval Airman in the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm and the ISAF Intelligence Exploitation Force prior to building a career in health and safety within the energy sector. Managing health and safety for multi-million pound projects and offshore assets, Brett is a qualified educator and accredited mental health first aid instructor with years of experience in mental health harm prevention. A previous winner of The Pride of Aberdeen Award for Outstanding Contribution to Health & Safety, IDCA Safety Award and a Recipient of the BCAc at the House of Lords, Brett established Omniscient Safety Innovations to create psychologically safe workplaces and prevent mental health harm at work.

Workplace chameleon

In the workplace, many employees psychologically experience the chameleon effect, naturally adopting certain behaviours and blending into the background. Brett shared how this impacts the ability to discuss mental health at work while helping people open the door towards psychologically safe places.

Jim worked at Grampian Police for 20 years in serious crime and major incident investigation roles and also holds a further 20 years’ experience across business development, general management, and director positions within the oil and gas sector. In 2018, Jim created the community interest company and social enterprise, P3 Business Care, after identifying that the vast majority of employee care cases were reactionary. To turn this approach on its head, P3 brings personal and proactive care to employees, developing trust to address a myriad of issues before reaching crisis point, all while working in partnership with the employer.

Saving lives the P3 way

For too long companies in the private sector business world have ticked the health and safety box with a remote 0800 employee assistance programme, or by running one day seminars. Jim shared his journey to turn employee care from a reactive approach to a personal, proactive partnership.

Andy is a former Senior Leadership Instructor with the Royal Air Force. He was responsible for scenario-based leadership development training and coaching of UK and overseas military Officers at the RAF Staff College. Since leaving the RAF, Andy has established himself as a specialist safety leadership and Human Performance consultant, having delivered numerous programmes worldwide. COMET’s products span culture, safety, and solutions to improve business processes and performance. These products are widely trusted and utilised across industries, including energy, construction, transportation, marine and utilities.

Empowering professionals to become healthier and more productive

In 2014 Steven delivered a speech on stage at a dinner event and experienced a health scare which was very frightening. From this moment on he decided it was time to take action and started eating healthier, exercising more, and taking supplements from Synergy. As a result of this change in lifestyle and the support from Synergy, Steven is now two and a half stone lighter and feels like a better version of himself, both physically and mentally.
